looking ahead to Holy Week...

Palm Sunday is coming up soon! Thus begins that busy, hectic week for clergy and churches: holy week. I want to share with you a few general observations to consider as we enter this season of the church:

• Holy Week is a study in contrasts. The joyful cries of Hosanna on Sunday lead to somber words on Thursday and shouts of crucify him on Friday. This week exposes us to a whole range of emotion and feeling. As you journey through this week, perhaps you might pay attention to your inner self - your feelings, emotions, etc; listen to how God is speaking to you through this medium.
• I want to encourage you to attend all the worship services during holy week. The joys of Easter - the promise of resurrection, the victory of God over the forces of evil, the vindication of Jesus Christ - none of this makes sense unless we participate in Holy Thursday and Good Friday. 
• Invite a friend to worship with you. Christmas and Easter seasons are times when people seem particularly open to church and faith. Take advantage of that! Reach out to someone and extend the invitation. 

May you be astounded anew this season at the love and grace of God.
